ARTIST STATEMENT
ARONGDARONG
Arong KIM and Darong KIM, who works as a duo, create participatory works in an open space where everyone can understand and communicate. The breath(collaboration) they created while sharing each other was grafted by applying various ideas (concepts) to semiotics as the marks of lines and dots without walls (planes) and depicted them in abstract and minimal geometric solid figures. Ultimately, the goal is communication between the work and the audience through these semantic interactions. Their works are shown through various mediums, including painting, installation, and engraving.
Ego and two spaces / Intersection / Doors
Set A gives a concept as 'actual space,' Set B is 'imaginary space,' and Intersection A∩B offers a concept as a 'Thinking Ego,' which is the subject freely moving in and out between the two spaces. Then embodied them in three-dimensional geometric shapes and worked as a plane (ego and two spaces) and an installation(door). The 'Plane' work reveals the spatiality of the two spaces by sewing on an engraving printed with dry point, one of the engraving techniques. At the same time, the sewing technique also means that the ego moves freely in the two spaces. Afterward, the entire space was re-expressed in geometric patterns using masking tape. The 'Installation' work is created with a "door" (door frame), a symbol of two spaces using a transparent PVC strap, and used the door as a mark to be recognized as a "Thinking Ego," which is moving in the two spaces, rather than a meaning of the door itself. The audience passes through the installed doors without the artist's explanation. It is not a space where the work is only hung, but a work installed for inducing interaction among the intention of the work, the artist, and the audience's interpretation.

Introspection / Contrast / The repetition of sin
The man of Rembrandt's 'The Return of the Prodigal Son,' wouldn't he have committed any more sins? Unlike the prodigal son who committed a sin and returned after repenting, we suffer from repeating sins every time. Moreover, we, who broke even trivial promises of ourselves and committed the same repetitive sin, may doubt the story of the 'return of the prodigal son' in the Bible at least once. The light of the white sphere, reflected light, and steps of shadow are depicted as forgiveness, repentance, and sin, respectively. And regularly or repeatedly installed the spheres and the acrylic plates with mirror film were worked the stood for 'repetition.'
Echo / Obstacle
The work, which depicted the severance of separated families in South and North Korea, shows the parting from the family by the outside influence. Under the theme of <Echo>, they visualize the distress of their long breakup without a hard plan through acrylic paintings and performances, then worked on installation photos later. It is a work that aims to share the pain of separated families with the hope and meaning that they, who have disconnected come-and-go and communication, can be realized meeting again, rather than the eternal farewell.

Regular Tetrahedron / Regular Tetrahedron Plan
The theme, which depicts the twin egos as a tetrahedron, is an installation work described by attaching mirror film to Plexiglass (acrylic plate) as a representative work. A tetrahedron composed of four faces with an equilateral triangular base is characterized by showing the same shape no matter which face is placed on the floor. It was described in various ways, such as installing as a complete tetrahedron or installing it on the floor after dismantling. Then it was later developed by sewing on the engraving. The ' Plane' work with four equilateral triangle pieces by engraving printing is a drawing of a coincidence moment before the tetrahedron completion.
